When each of my own three kids was first starting preschool, they weren't excited to say goodbye to me. That transition was hard for me, too. I wanted to make sure they knew I loved them, even when I wasn't around.
As I was painting my series of three mother and child paintings, I thought of how lovely it might be for a child who was missing a parent to look up from their play and see images like these. They could serve as a visual reminder that their parent's love was strong, even when they were apart.
I'm at a very different point in my life. Two of my three kids have moved away to college. My message to each of them remains the same. My love for them is still strong, even though we live apart.
